The bank started its operations in Spain in 1974, being the first foreign bank in the country, and offering the widest range of financial products and services both in the field of retail banking or private individuals, as well as in wholesale banking (investment and corporate banking).
On January 2, 2015, CaixaBank acquired the Barclays España for 820 million euros. Barclays Spain contributed 550,000 customers, 262 offices, nearly 2,400 employees and assets of 21,600 million euros.
