Banco Popular Español (BPE) is a Spanish bank founded in 1926, a subsidiary of Banco Santander since June 2017. Its headquarters are the Abelias building, located in the Hortaleza district of Madrid.
It is the leading bank serving SMEs in Spain, with an 18% market share as of 2017.
As of December 31, 2017, Banco Popular’s assets amounted to 113,137 million euros, making it the sixth Spanish financial institution by volume of assets. That same date, Banco Popular had 1,416 branches and 9,066 employees. As of December 31, 2016, it had 4.6 million customers.
