Banamex (or Banco Nacional de México) is owned by Citigroup and is based in the Federal District of Mexico.
It was founded on June 2, 1884, as a result of the merger of two banks: the Mexican National and the Mexican Commodity.
In August 2001, the bank became part of Citigroup, a leading global financial institution, present in more than 100 countries.
In November 2001, Citibank and Banca Confía branches, products, and services were integrated into the Banamex technology platform and services. Integration has enabled Citigroup to offer a wide range of financial services in Mexico as part of a leading global financial services company with 200 million credit cardholders in more than 100 countries.
