Banks in Italy

Italy has a well-developed banking and credit system. Italian banks are subject to strict state supervision and the Bank of Italy (BOI, Central Bank of Italy) must authorize the establishment of any new bank.

The banking sector in Italy is characterized by the existence of a large number of commercial and specialized banks with extensive branch networks covered big cities, tourist attractions and small towns and villages.

Opening hours

Banks in Italy usually open Monday to Friday from 08:30 to 13:30, and then in the afternoon from 15:00 to 16:00, depending on a particular bank and branch location. Also, some banks have branches that open on Saturdays (mostly in big cities and near main tourist attractions).

Currency

The official currency of Italy is the Euro (EUR) which is divided into 100 cents, which are also known as centimes or centesimi.

Coins: 1 and 2 EUR, and 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents

In Italy, the fastest, easiest way to exchange currency is to withdrawal Euro using ATM (Bancomat) with your debit or credit card. Another option is to find the nearest bank’s branch or Post office.
